Description

"Jewelry is not merely adornment; it is a silent language that expresses refined taste and a unique personality." These are not just words, but a philosophy embodied by the creations of the venerable House of Cartier.

Since its founding, Cartier has captivated hearts with its innovative designs and rare precious stones. But what is the secret behind this enduring allure that makes a Cartier piece more than just jewelry? And more importantly, how has this brand managed to maintain its position as a symbol of absolute sophistication for over a century and a half? Let us trace the threads of the early beginnings of this legendary house and explore  the journey from a modest workshop to become a global icon in the world of luxury jewelry.

From Rue Montorgueil in the heart of the French capital to becoming a global jewelry empire, Cartier stands as one of the oldest and most prestigious jewelry and watch houses in the world, boasting a history rich in innovation and cultural influence. Cartier was founded by Louis-François Cartier in 1847 in Paris. His son Alfred Cartier later took over the management of the company, but it was his three grandsons, Louis, Pierre, and Jacques, who propelled the brand towards global recognition. They opened branches in London (1902), New York (1909), and Saint Petersburg, further solidifying Cartier's status as a symbol of international luxury.

In 1964, with the passing of Pierre Cartier, the company left family hands. Between 1972 and 1976, a group of investors led by Robert Hocq reunited the branches under the name Cartier Monde. The house witnessed remarkable expansion during the 1980s with the launch of the Les Must de Cartier collection, which offered Cartier luxury at more accessible prices, including perfumes, eyewear, and accessories.
